Stages per practice area
An immigration matter does not move through the same stages as a conveyance, or as contentious proceedings. Mandato ships fifteen practice areas, each with its own stages, and each stage with the tasks that always get done in that kind of matter.
The stages are editable. If your firm runs due diligence before the reservation contract, move the stage and the rest reorders itself. What does not change is the consequence: move a matter into a stage and that stage's tasks are created and assigned on their own.

The history writes itself
Every email sent or received, every WhatsApp message, every document uploaded, every invoice issued and every hour recorded lands on the matter's timeline, with its author and its date. Nobody has to file anything.
When a client rings and asks where things stand, whichever lawyer picks up — whether or not they run the matter — opens the file and knows. When somebody leaves the firm, their work stays behind.
Deadlines and tasks
Procedural deadlines are computed from the notification date and placed in the responsible lawyer's calendar, with whatever advance warnings you configure. Notifications arriving through LexNET carry their own deadline: Mandato computes it and hangs it off the right matter.
Everything else — a follow-up call, a fee note to review, a reminder to renew a power of attorney — lives in the same list. A lawyer opens Mandato in the morning and sees what falls due today, not an inventory of everything outstanding.

Conflict checks, before you accept
The time to find a conflict is before the engagement letter is signed, not three months later. When you add a client or a counterparty, Mandato cross-checks the name, the tax number and the connected companies against every matter in the firm — open and closed — and warns you if there is a match.
The check is recorded with its date and its result. If you ever have to show that it was carried out, it is there.
One matter, not six systems
The matter is the spine of the rest of the platform. Documents are stored on it, conversations hang from it, hours are booked to it, the invoice comes out of it, and anti-money-laundering checks are filed inside it.
That is the difference between a platform and six tools exporting data to one another. Nothing is copied twice, so nothing goes stale in one place while somebody corrects it in another.

Frequently asked questions
Can I adapt the stages to how my firm works?
Yes. The fifteen practice areas ship with default stages and tasks, but you can rename stages, add them, delete them and reorder them. Changes apply to new matters; those already in flight keep their structure until you choose to migrate them.
What happens to the matters I already have in another system?
They get imported. Mandato accepts client, matter and document imports from CSV and from a structured folder. Closed matters come in as searchable history without cluttering the board. If you are moving from another practice management system, we run the first import with you.
How is a procedural deadline computed?
From the notification date, applying the count that corresponds to the type of deadline — working days or calendar days — and excluding non-working days. The deadline appears in the responsible lawyer's calendar with whatever advance warnings you configured. The count remains the professional's responsibility: Mandato proposes it and makes it visible; it does not replace your judgement.
Does the conflict check cover archived matters?
Yes. The cross-check runs against every matter in the firm, open and closed, and includes clients, counterparties and the connected companies recorded on each. The result is saved with its date, so the check can be evidenced later.
