Mandato isn't a startup that discovered legal. It's a law firm that loves its craft and got tired of not being able to spend the day on it. Here's the story — short, because we've been busy building.
From complaint to product.
Seven milestones between the day the firm incorporated and the day its software opens to everyone else. Not one of them began as a plan to found a technology company.

Frank & Partners is born
The firm incorporates: boutique, Costa del Sol, clients of twenty-plus nationalities, two working languages. Building software was never the plan.

The diagnosis
Too many hours on work a machine should do: deadlines, documents, communications, invoices. The firm decides to automate properly.

We tried everything on the market
Months evaluating the available software. Nothing combined legal Spanish, English and the Spanish administration in a product you'd enjoy using. The uncomfortable conclusion: we'd have to build it.

The first internal tool
The system that would run the firm's matters goes live. No name, no logo — just a demanding law firm using it every day. The best quality control there is.

A demanding firm broke it before you could.
Mandato wasn't tested in a demo. It was tested against real deadlines, against the AEAT in August, and against clients who write in four languages. When something didn't work, the firm felt it that same day — which is why it was fixed that same day.
That leaves a mark on the product. Invoicing meets VeriFactu because the firm had invoices to send. LexNET notifications land inside the matter because nobody wanted to watch an inbox. None of it was designed for a screenshot.

We built this because we love the law.
We didn't start a software company because practising had bored us. We started because we liked practising and the day kept going somewhere else: counting deadlines twice to be sure, hunting a power of attorney through seven folders, explaining on the phone for the third time where a matter stands.
Every feature in Mandato exists because one of those afternoons became intolerable. And the proof that it works isn't a product metric: it's that Frank & Partners practises more law per week than it used to, with the same people.
